At the beginning of 2019, the International Airport of the Region of Murcia, 78 km from Águilas, became operational, with several international routes to various European countries. It is connected to the road network by the RM-16 and RM-17 motorways. The Alicante-Elche Airport is 70 km away. In addition to the Murcia Regional Road Network and the Mediterranean Motorway (A-7), a few kilometres from the town of Águilas is the Mediterranean freeway (AP-7), a motorway that runs along the coast from France to Algeciras with both toll and toll-free sections.
The town is divided into two large bays, Levante and Poniente, dominated by the emblematic silhouette of the Castle of San Juan de las Águilas. This fortress, now a museum, is worth a visit. From the top you have a marvellous view of the whole town.
In the centre of the town centre is the Plaza de España. In the words of El Viajero, the Glorieta offers the exotic haven of a central garden. Bougainvilleas, palm trees and hundred-year-old ficus trees from Brazil give the place the appearance of a shadowy, secret bubble. The neo-Mudéjar façade of the town hall does not clash with the exoticism and exuberance of the vegetation.
Two picturesque windmills, the imposing architectural design of the Auditorium and, at the other end of the Levante Bay, the Pico del Aguilica, a curious rock formation resembling an eagle's beak, stand out in the city's skyline. From its viewpoint, you can enjoy an impressive sunset.
In the vicinity of the fishing port and the promenade, there are several terraces where they serve excellent dishes, fresh from the sea. The restaurants in Águilas and the surrounding area are varied and affordable - rice dishes, red prawns, fresh fish, paella...
In the calendar of festivities, our Carnival has been declared of International Turistic Interest since 2005.
